The Brief

Based on a project based around the concept of "Dang I Wish I Made That!" where the challenge was to create an original design based on a design or designer inspires you. This is where I selected the designer Soren Iverson, who has seen some recent fame on Twitter with his out of the box design mockups. Whether his designed were "Please beat Minesweeper to cancel your subscription" or "A juul app with parental controls", all his designs combine unique thinking and modern design to create a product. This is where I took this creative design challenge and arrived at the concept of a weather app, but for other planets.

The Process

Research and Analysis

To kick off the design process, I conducted extensive research on the weather conditions of each planet, including temperature ranges, atmospheric pressures, and other relevant factors. This research informed the design decisions I made later on, such as the use of color schemes and data visualizations.

User Personas and User Flows

Next, I created user personas to better understand the needs and goals of different types of users. This helped me create user flows that catered to the different needs of each persona, ensuring that the app was easy to use and provided relevant information to each user.

Wireframing and Prototyping

Using the insights gained from my research and analysis, I created low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the overall layout and functionality of the app. I then created high-fidelity prototypes using Figma, incorporating design elements such as typography, color schemes, and icons to create a visually appealing interface.

Usability Testing

I conducted several rounds of usability testing with individuals who fit my user personas to validate my design decisions and identify any potential issues or areas for improvement. I made changes based on user feedback and iterated on my designs until I was confident in the final product.

The Results

Final Design

The final design of Astrocast is a visually appealing and intuitive weather app that provides users with accurate weather information for various planets in our solar system. The app features easy-to-read data visualizations, intuitive navigation, and a clean interface that is easy on the eyes. This project is a great example of how even the most outlandish ideas can come out successful if you apply good design to the problem.
